Prerequisites for learning to dive
Be at least 10 years old
Have adequate swimming skills
Be in good physical health
Step 1 Knowledge Development First, you’ll start with PADI's online eLearning course where you’ll learn fundamental scuba concepts from the convenience of your desktop, laptop or tablet. Knowledge Development to understand basic principles of scuba diving.
Pool Dives & Class Review This is where the fun begins. In the pool your instructor will demonstrate the various skills you viewed during your Independent Study and have you perform them in our onsite swimming pool. These are the skills that help you to safely dive and prepare you for your open water dives in step three.
Step Three Open Water Dives
This is where you’ll apply the various skills you learned and developed during step two, in an open water environment. We recommend you complete the open water dives soon after finishing your final pool and knowledge development session. This is when your skills and diving knowledge are at their freshest.
How does it work?
After enrolling, you’ll learn about scuba diving fundamentals through videos, audio, images and literature. Some sections will have short quizzes to help you evaluate your progress and identify topics to review. As part of the enrollment process with Florida Scuba Divers will schedule an orientation, gear-fitting and in-water training as well as message them with any questions.

PADI Open Water Diver eLearning covers basic scuba knowledge and safety concepts required to become certified. You’ll also develop in-water diving skills with a PADI Instructor at Florida Scuba Divers.
What else is required to complete the course?
A PADI Instructor will verify that you’ve completed the eLearning segment of your course, and ensure your understanding of safety-related material. Next, your instructor will teach you basic underwater skills and help you practice in confined water (a pool or pool-like conditions) ensuring you’ve mastered each skill before going to open water. After successfully completing four open water training dives, you’ll be a certified diver which authorizes you to purchase and rent dive gear, get air fills and dive within your skill level anywhere in the world.
